E·gress is an exhibition by artists Marie Brett and Kevin O'Shanahan, which exhibited at The Crawford Gallery, and IMMA. The Exhibition is a mix of Photography, Video and Audio that deals with Dementia as a state of mind. The book is a collection of photo essays by Doctors, Social Workers and Artists on their professional experiences working in this area and their own interpretation of the artwork.
We used a mixture of faded text and unpredictable layouts to highlight the breakdown of communication faculties experieced by patients. Fading, hazy, thoughts sometimes punctuated by a moment of clarity. The yellow dot symbolizes this punctuation and the dilation of a thought. It appears in various sizes throughout the text, often accompanied by a statement / thought.
We worked closely with the artists to communicate the idea and mood of their work in print. Visit mariebrett.ie/egress for more info.
